The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) is celebrating two award wins at the national Scottish Thistle Awards 2025. Staff from the wildlife conservation charity’s Edinburgh Zoo picked up the Climate Action Award, while Highland Wildlife Park was awarded Best Visitor Attraction.

Edinburgh Zoo won the Climate Action Award in recognition of the pledge to cut its carbon footprint by 60% by 2030. It is achieving this with the installation of the UK’s biggest zoo-based solar meadow, using sustainable best-practice when designing habitats and delivering community programmes that make nature more inclusive and accessible.

Highland Wildlife Park was crowned Best Visitor Attraction after the opening of a £7.6 million project to bring Scotland’s Wildlife Discovery Centre to the park. The new, sustainably designed buildings include a redeveloped shop and café, as well as a new interactive exhibition centre, hilltop den and events space for schools and communities.
