Tiny Eurasian crane chick hatches at Highland Wildlife Park

A tiny Eurasian crane chick has been captured on camera for the first time at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s Highland Wildlife Park, near Aviemore. 

While the first few weeks of a chick’s life are critical, staff at the wildlife conservation charity are delighted with how well the youngster is progressing.  

Born on 11 June to mum Leela and dad Hugh, the chick has soft brown plumage and will become independent at around 65 days old, when they will develop the species’ iconic slate grey feathers and red spot upon their head.
