Members are invited to join us for our Annual General Meeting, which will be held online at 7pm on Thursday 27 August 2020. Please note that the meeting will be held online only due to the COVID-19 situation. This is in line with current government guidance to avoid indoor gatherings.

Board Member Nominations

Members who wish to stand for election to the Society’s board of trustees at the AGM must be nominated by a fellow member. Please note that members may not nominate themselves for election.

Nomination forms and role descriptions can be obtained from Gillian Wishart via email, or 0131 314 0302, or by visiting the AGM page of the RZSS website. Completed forms should be returned to Gillian by 12 noon on Thursday 23 July and will be forwarded to the Society’s Nominations and Remuneration Committee for review.

To complement the skillsets of current board members, we would be particularly interested to receive nominations for members with conservation, tourism, veterinary or zoology expertise. The duties and responsibilities of board members of the Society are substantial, and it is recommended that potential candidates read the role description. It is important that candidates agree to be nominated in advance of their nomination being received.

Individuals who wish to go forward for election must submit a biography of up to 250 words and an accompanying statement of no more than 75 words highlighting the value they would bring to the board. Nominees will be invited to talk to the members at the AGM for two minutes about the value they can bring to the Society.

Successful candidates will also be required to undertake a Basic Disclosure (Scotland) check and an identification check (or provide evidence of recent checks conducted in 2020), with their election being confirmed upon satisfactory completion of this process. The Society will advise elected members on how to undergo these checks and reimburse any expenses incurred.

AGM Resolutions

Members wishing to raise matters of policy or issues of concern can submit motions for discussion at the AGM. Any motions will be considered by the Society’s board. Motions must be received in writing by Thursday 23 July and can be sent via post to RZSS Chair, c/o Gillian Wishart, Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, Edinburgh Zoo, 134 Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh EH12 6TS or by email to Gillian.
