Higher and higher as Highland Wildlife Park visitor numbers soar

RZSS Highland Wildlife Park achieved a record number of visitors in 2016. The Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) reported an increase in visitor numbers across Scotland, with the Park echoing that trend with a 10% increase in the number of visitors.

A total of 136,843 people visited RZSS Highland Wildlife Park last year, making 2016 officially its busiest year on record.

Daska Macintosh, Head of Operations and Visitor Services for RZSS Highland Wildlife Park, said:

“We are really excited about the increase in visitor numbers at the Park. Despite a cold and blustery year many visitors were excited to visit the Park to see our unique collection of animals, including polar bears, Amur tigers, Scottish wildcats and snow leopards.

“Numbers remained buoyant all year round highlighting the fact that – in spite of its rural location – the Highland Wildlife Park is much more than a seasonal attraction.

“The whole team here at the Park have worked exceptionally hard to provide excellent customer service and they can be justifiably proud of their efforts.”

Lots of new developments are underway at the Highland Wildlife Park, as well as activities to help further engage our visitors. In response to demand, the Park is already offering additional Land Rover and photography tours, has doubled the number of keeper talks and installed additional picnic areas for families to enjoy. A new native species trail launches this Easter, with a replica polar bear den also being installed ahead of the holidays.

RZSS Highland Wildlife Park, located just seven miles from Aviemore in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, is home to three polar bears (including the only female polar bear in the UK), snow leopards, Scottish wildcats and wolverines. The Park, which covers more than 200 acres, has an extensive array of cold weather adapted species from Scotland and around the world.
